Safenames Commercial Solar PV Remediation
A 220 kWp system review following a significant electrical malfunction.
Investigation Findings
CEC investigated the 220 kWp installation following an electrical incident. The review identified issues with string design, MPPT allocation, shading, DC connections and cable management.
String design
Mismatched string lengths required review and redesign to suit the array layout and inverter inputs.
MPPT allocation
The review identified unsuitable allocation of strings to inverter MPPT inputs.
Shading
Shaded and unshaded roof areas were connected together, requiring the electrical layout to be reconsidered.
DC connections and cable management
DC terminations and cable routing required remedial work.
Redesign Solution and Implementation
CEC redesigned the DC layout, corrected string lengths and MPPT allocation, replaced DC terminations, and improved cable management and containment. The work addressed the electrical faults identified during the investigation. The Safenames project also included a ballast review that identified approximately eight tonnes of excess ballast.
Implementation Scope
The work covered electrical investigation, DC redesign, corrected string lengths and MPPT allocation, replacement terminations and improved cable management. Findings and remedial work were specific to this installation.
